The Spectacular Royal Grand Palace
The white-walled fort of Vichai Prasit was built in 1688 as part of a defence line of forts to prevent ships from sailing up the river to the then Siamese capital of Ayutthaya.
It is situated on the western bank of the Chao Phraya near the confluence of Klong Bangkok Yai. The fort is at now part of the Royal Thai Navy’s headquarters so access is restricted but visitors can get a good view of this structure from a river boat.
